Other Towns in Flanders

Aside from the five historic sister cities of Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Leuven and Mechelen, Flanders is filled with coastal resort towns, quaint villages and off-the-beaten-track experiences for you to explore.

The beaches have room for all and are the perfect place to mingle with Belgians.

Aalst has an interesting market square and town hall.

This memorable town is linked to Bruges by a romantic tree-lined canal where you can take a quite bike ride or a pleasant boat trip along the canal.

Here you can sample the famous Jenever Gin and visit a Japanese Garden and the nearby Bokrijk Open Air Musuem.

Visit an interesting astronomical clock tower which is the handiwork of watchmaker Zimmer.

With a spectacular Gothic Town Hall, it is the center of the late medieval art of tapestry-making.  Be sure to visit the Huis de Lalaing, where the Oudenaarde tapestries are kept and restored.

The lovely town of Veurne is well known for its annual penitential procession and lovely town hall.
