Graspop Metal Meeting: Every year more than 100,000 metal fans descend upon the small town of Dessel (Province of Antwerp). The line-up from June 27 through June 29 is impressive and includes Kiss, My Dying Bride, Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Ministry, Iron Maiden, Sonata Arctica, Volbeat, At The Gates, Forbidden, Hollenthon, Deathstars, Converge and Comeback Kid. A free shuttle bus service from Mol train station is available to the festival site. MORE


Cactus Festival Bruges:  A three day outdoor festival offering a mix of Rock, Reggae, Rap, Roots, Raï and R&B is held July 11 through July 13, 2008 in Bruges at the magical Lake of Love Park. The headliners are US bands B-52s, Dinosaur Jr., Sophia and Bootsy Collins & The Hardest Working Band. While in Bruges check out the shooting locations of the recent movie "In Bruges" staring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Several hotels teamed up to offer special "In Bruges" packages. MORE

Rock Werchter: Famous rock groups perform alongside young and new faces. In short, the best of what has been and what is still to come. First name in the line up for this year is the English rock band, Radiohead. July 3 through 6, 2008. The Youth Hostel Blauwput, located right outside the train station of Leuven and in walking distance from the shuttles to the festival grounds offers comfortable rooms, delicious meals, and a cozy garden. Great for young travelers and the budget minded. MORE

Lokerse Feesten: Not far from Ghent the town of Lokeren welcomes rock, pop, hip hop, techno and world music fans for a ten day festival. So far Status Quo, Macy Gray, Massive Attack, N*E*R*D, Supergrass and the biggest punk band ever, The Sex Pistols, will perform at the Lokerse Feesten from August 1 through 10, 2008. The Lokerse Feesten festival grounds are only a 5 minute walk away from the train station. Direct trains from Ghent run every half hour. MORE

Marktrock Leuven: During three days national and international pop, rock and hip-hop acts are presented on two large stages in Leuven's historic center. This is a festival with something for everyone in a university town, where the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Not to be missed Leuven, August 8 through 10, 2008. Leuven is home to one of Europe’s oldest universities, a few lucky students and faculty even have the distinct privilege of living in the 13th century stone beguinage a UNESCO world heritage site. Pukkelpop: Annual alternative music event held on the Kiewit Festival Grounds near the town of Hasselt. The 23rd edition of the festival will be held August 14 through 16, 2008. Eight stages will offer a sparkling cocktail of the most diverse genres. This years performance of Metallica is much anticipated. Hasselt is an hour and twenty minutes away from Brussels and direct trains run every half hour. Special tickets including train transportation within Belgium to the festival are available. MORE

10 Days Off Ghent: This important indoor electronic music festival coincides with the Gentse Feesten (Ghent Festivities) and is held July 18 through 27, 2008. The line-up for 10 Days Off includes club music by established as well as upcoming talent performing virtually every sound you could possibly imagine: house, electro, funk breakbeats, rock, drum 'n' bass, minimal, dubstep, nu-jazz, techno, disco, electro-house and other hybrid genres. Maanrock: Maanrock (Moon Rock) is a free pop and rock festival catering to young people on Saturday and families on Sunday is held in Mechelen on four different stages August 23 and August 24, 2008. Last year's line up included: Shameboy, Magnus, Stijn, Jerboa and Billy King. A twenty minute train ride from Brussels Mechelen is known for its carillon school and is thriving with quaint shops, car-free areas and pleasant little squares. MORE

 

 

And for those who would like to rock at the museum check out It's not only Rock 'n' roll Baby! an exhibition held at the Center for Fine Arts (BOZAR) in Brussels to mark the 33rd anniversary of the legendary rock festival, Rock Werchter. The exhibit reveals the little-known visual side of some of the most popular rock and pop bands and provides insight into the role of visual art in the creation of their music. The exhibition features work by bands and musicians from the 1970s through today, such as Brian Eno, Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Pete Doherty and many others. Brussels from June 17th through September 7, 2008. Throughout the exhibition live activities, including poetry readings, performances and unplugged concerts will also take place. MORE
