Horse riding Activities



The Belgian Warm Blood is the most popular horse breed and accounts for 55 to 60 percent of all pedigree horses in Belgium . Whether you ride around Brussels, along the scenic coast of Flanders or in the lush woodlands in French speaking Wallonia, there are ample horse riding treks to choose from.

 

Brussels

Many riding clubs and centers are in and around Brussels:
Les Drags : Located at Hoeilaart, near the Soignes forest, offering endless riding opportunities.
Lord Newcastle Stables : offers dressage, combined training, children's short course, side saddle course and much more .
Royal Etrier Belge : English-language lessons for all levels in the riding schools. Trekking in the nearby Foret de Soignes.

 

Flanders
The Belgian Coast with a six mile long beach, woods and grasslands is a perfect setting for great journeys on horseback. The woodlands offer beautiful paths for horse lovers. Walks on the beach are allowed at low tide and during the period between the 1st of June and the 15th of September before 9 am and after 7 pm. Stables are located in the area and a map of the trail can be purchased at the local tourist office.
In Lanaken, you can take a day trip by carriage driving yourself along a route laid out by the Tourist Board.
Accommodation
Klein burkelhof : This modern milk cattle farm located close to Bruges and the Coast offers coach trips, pony riding and visiting a stud farm. A riding school is nearby.

 

French Speaking Wallonia
The Walloon Association of Equestrian Tourism can assist you with the organization of one or several day treks in French speaking Wallonia. They can take care of all necessary arrangements for you: horses, guides, accommodations, supplies, baggage transportation and insurance.

Equitation Gesves

Located near the city of Namur, this equestrian center offers horse riding lessons.

Numerous equestrian centers invite you to discover the nature of French speaking Wallonia on horseback.The Nature Park of the Plaines de l’Escaut proposes index cards with Equestrian circuits to organize your rides in Beloeil, Bon-Secours, Brunehaut and Rumes and a number of provincial tourist Federations have published free or paying thematic maps for horse-riding treks and for hitched up rides. Trekking on donkey back are also available.
La Manade de Collarmont breeds pure blood Camargue horses and organizes equestrian activities.
Europ' Adventure : offers 7 days / 6 nights / 6 days on horseback or 3 days / 2 nights on donkey back.
Accommodation
Domaine des Olivettes : This small family run hotel offers 14 rooms, stables for horses and horseback-riding in the forest on their Mérens-horses (Only for experienced riders.)
Ferme de Durbuy : this bed and breakfast offers horseback riding and hitched up rides.
Ranch San Diego : offers 17 rooms, horseback treks from 2 hours to 1 day (beginners or experts) and from 2 days to 1 week for the more experienced riders and hitched up rides.
Relais de la Vierre : offers bed and breakfast in simple and comfortable accommodations, roomy stalls and green grazing grounds. Horseback riding (one day or two days) in the forest d'Herbeumont.

Equestrian Gites and Guestrooms .Excellent departure or stopover points for horse-riding treks:

La cense aux hirondelles : offers 2 holiday homes and guesthouse rooms in an old 16th century farmhouse and horse, pony and donkey trekking.

Ferme Chateau de Laneffe : offers 2 gîtes and 5 guest rooms on the converted farm in a castle-farm dating back to 1604,restaurant on site, pony rides for children and accommodation for horses.

Les Hauts-Vents : offers three comfortable rooms in the separated wing of an old farmhouse in rural surroundings, outside the village and boxes for horses. Located between Charleroi and Namur.
La Maison Couleurs : offers 5 guestrooms, a guest table and an equestrian infrastructure. Located at the heart of the Meuse's valley, between Namur and French speaking Ardennes.

Horse Riding Adventure

Weekend adventures riding a Belgian horse in the beautiful countryside. From 4 4 person to large groups. Tailor made concepts are also available. Sample itinerary:

Saturday

Depart at 10:30 am to Chanly to pick up and saddle horses

After a ride in the forest with a guide, enjoy a delicious forest picnic.

Return to hotel around 6 pm, have dinner at 7 pm.

Sunday

Return to Chanly over rivers forests & paths

Weekend rate with accommodation, meals and hose rental from 200 Euro per person.
